An Inquiry held at the Offices of the HRD on 19th April 2024, Jockey Bawan Sooful and Trainer S Mahadia were interviewed for the riding of horse Vartacus on 17 December 2023.
Subsequently, Jockey Sooful was charged with a contravention of Rule 43.2.1, in that, whilst riding his horse, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the running of the race in order to ensure that his Horse is given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing in the race.
Jockey B Sooful pleaded not guilty to the charge; however, he was found guilty as charged. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for 9 Race Meetings.
Jockey Sooful has appealed against the sanction.
