The Horse Racing Division of Mauritius confirms that at an Inquiry held in its offices in Port Louis on 5 April 2023, Jockey S Donohoe was charged with contraventions of Rules 22.14, 43.2.2 and 43.2.5.
The particulars of the first charge (22.14) being that he communicated with another Jockey in the stalls prior to the jump of Race 6, run at the Champ de Mars Racecourse on 1 April 2023, which communication was not for safety purposes.
Jockey S Donohoe pleaded not guilty to the charge however, was found guilty by the Board.
After considering the evidence in mitigation, Jockey Donohoe was fined an amount of Rs 10,000.
The particulars of the second charge (43.2.2) being that leaving the 1300m he failed to ensure he did not cause interference to Bellagio King (K Ramsamy) and Beni Des Dieux (N. Batchameah) in Race 8, run at the Champ de Mars Racecourse on 1 April 2023.
Jockey S Donohoe pleaded not guilty to the charge however, was found guilty by the Board.
After considering the evidence in mitigation, Jockey Donohoe was suspended for one (1) Race Meeting (to be served on 15 April 2023).
The particulars of the third charge (43.2.5) being that between the 400 m and 300 m, he rode in a dangerous and reckless manner, resulting in Gontravelin (R Joorawon) having to ease severely in Race 8, run at the Champ de Mars Racecourse on 1 April 2023.
Jockey S Donohoe pleaded not guilty to the charge however, was found guilty by the Board.
After considering the evidence in mitigation, Jockey Donohoe was suspended for six (6) Race Meetings (29 April 2023 to 3 June 2023).
Jockey S Donohoe has been informed of his right of appeal for every case.
