HRD Stewards give jockey De Souza 1 year suspension

The verdict fell on Tuesday afternoon (15.11.22) for Brazilian jockey Jose De Souza. After having stood him down on Saturday 12 November 2022, following his ride on Transonic in the 4th race of Race Meeting 32 (361 Rose Belle Cup), he was sanctioned with a 1-year suspension for his performance in the home straight aboard the same horse. His mount finished 0.10 length behind the winner, Massimo. Both are trained by Mr. Samraj Mahadia.

The stewards blamed the Brazilian for his lack of vigour and his unusual style. Jose De Souza pleaded not guilty, was found guilty as charged, and suspended under rule 207(a), which states: “When riding in a race, a jockey shall allow his horse to run on its merits…”

J De Souza was informed of is right of appeal.
